Logistics Robotization in Latvia Still in Early Stages
Only 3–5% of Latvian companies use automation and robotization in logistics, compared to 19% in Lithuania and even higher in Sweden. Another 9% of Latvian firms plan to introduce robots within the next five years.
Although robotization and automation are advancing rapidly in global logistics, Latvia lags behind. Currently, only about 3–5% of local companies have integrated automated systems into their logistics operations, according to industry data.
In comparison, neighboring Lithuania already has 19% of companies using robotization, while Sweden reports an even higher adoption rate. On a positive note, 9% of Latvian companies plan to start using robots in the next five years, indicating a gradual increase in interest.
High initial investment costs and a smaller number of companies handling large shipment volumes may be among the reasons for slower adoption. However, international experience shows that robotization can significantly boost efficiency and reduce costs in the long run.
Latvia's logistics sector will need to adapt to global trends to remain competitive. Experts predict that demand for automation solutions will grow alongside the development of e-commerce and labor shortages.
