The Latvian Olympic Committee (LOC) has publicly rejected accusations recently raised by figures in the Paralympic sports community. Four-time Paralympic champion Aigars Apinis, in an open letter, voiced concerns about possible corrupt practices by the LOC and attempts to interfere in the work of the Latvian Paralympic Committee (LPK). Similar concerns were expressed by LPK president Daiga Dadzīte, who suggested the LOC may be trying to gain greater influence over LPK decision-making in order to secure an additional vote in the distribution of the State Sports Fund's resources.

LOC's response

In its statement, the LOC emphasized its commitment to openness, democracy and the rule of law, calling on all involved parties to pursue an open dialogue. The organization noted it is a non-governmental, non-profit sports body whose task, under legal regulation, is to lead the Olympic Movement in Latvia and coordinate the work of sports federations. The LOC also stated that its responsibilities include upholding the principles of sports ethics and fair play under the Sports Law, as well as supporting sports opportunities for people with special needs.

Invitation to a meeting

Building on a proposal made during a meeting on August 13, 2026, the LOC has invited the heads of Olympic sport federations and candidates for the LPK Board to attend a working meeting aimed at giving all candidates equal opportunity to present their views and discuss further cooperation. The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at 15:00, in the meeting hall of the Riga Olympic Centre. The LOC asked federation leaders to inform all interested LPK Board candidates about the event.
