Lorde speaks out against AI glasses

Singer Lorde performed at the Real Cool Festival in Madrid on Thursday and took time during her set to voice opposition to AI-powered smart glasses. She did not name any specific brand, but her comments were likely aimed at festival sponsor Ray-Ban, which partnered with Meta to create AI smartglasses.

In videos shared on social media, Lorde thanked the crowd for “something real” and noted it’s getting harder to distinguish real from fake. “You don’t know if someone is wearing sunglasses or if they’re wearing those fucked up fucking… Can I just say, for the record, fuck the glasses. Don’t get the glasses. Not sexy,” she said.

Meta’s upcoming plans

The remarks come as Meta faces renewed scrutiny over its smart glasses. Despite backlash, the company is reportedly planning to release “super sensing” glasses that continuously record.

According to Stereogum, Lorde was followed on stage by Blackpink’s Jennie, who is a Ray-Ban Meta AI ambassador and has appeared in advertising campaigns, including a video screened between sets at the festival.
