Latvian Radio news chief resigns after criticism over crisis coverage
The head of Latvian Radio's News Service, Uģis Lībietis, has resigned following heavy criticism of insufficient news coverage during a recent crisis. Public broadcaster LSM is now also reviewing the responsibility of other senior staff, including editor-in-chief Anita Brauna.

Uģis Lībietis, head of the News Service at Latvian Radio, has stepped down from his post after facing sharp criticism over how the radio station covered a recent crisis situation.
Public broadcaster LSM has acknowledged that the radio's news coverage during the crisis was inadequate, even though for many residents radio remained one of the few available sources of information at the time.
Other officials under review
Following Lībietis's resignation, attention has turned to the responsibility of other LSM officials. According to the Sunday broadcast of "De facto," the performance of LSM editor-in-chief Anita Brauna is also being assessed in connection with the events.
It remains unclear when or how a final decision will be made regarding the possible responsibility or further actions concerning other officials.
