Latvian Public Media (LSM) has imposed disciplinary sanctions on two of its senior editors over their conduct during the storm on August 22 and 23. LSM editor-in-chief Anita Braune and Latvian Radio News Service editor-in-chief Zane Enine have both received an official reprimand.

The decision was announced by LSM, which said the two editors' actions during the storm did not meet the level of responsibility expected from their positions. Other employees whose work was evaluated received verbal warnings, a lighter form of disciplinary action.

Latvian Television (LTV) reports that Braune and Enine were issued formal reprimands. The LSM board based its ruling on an internal review of editorial work during the storm. No detailed description of the specific failures has been made public.

Neither editor has publicly commented on the decision so far. It is also not known how many staff members received verbal warnings.

The case highlights the accountability of senior media managers in emergency situations, when the public relies on fast and accurate information. The LSM board concluded that both editors failed to fulfill their duties to an appropriate standard during the storm.
