On Thursday, July 23, draft amendments were submitted to the Saeima Commission on Human Rights and Public Affairs, aiming to legally secure the brands of Latvijas Televīzija (LTV) and Latvijas Radio. The proposed changes would enshrine the names and trademarks of Latvia's two public broadcasters in legislation.

The Saeima plans to consider the matter after the upcoming elections. A specific date for the amendments to be debated in the parliament's plenary session has not yet been set. Proponents of the bill argue that legal protection of the brands ensures their long-term stability and prevents potential misuse or identity infringement.

Both LTV and Latvijas Radio play a key role in Latvia's cultural and information landscape, making the legal safeguarding of their brands an important step for strengthening the media environment.
