LU men's 3x3 basketball team reaches EUSA quarterfinals; RSU women conclude tournament
The University of Latvia men's 3x3 basketball team won twice on Friday to reach the EUSA Games quarterfinals. The Riga Stradins University women's team ended the tournament in shared ninth place after a last-16 loss.

The European Universities Sports Games (EUSA Games), being held this week in Italy's Salerno province, continued on Friday with the final group-stage matches and the first knockout rounds in the 3x3 basketball tournament. Two Latvian university teams were in action: the men's side from the University of Latvia (LU) and the women's side from Riga Stradins University (RSU).
The LU men's team consists of Davis Skreivers, Edvards Lucis, Martins Evarts Zviedris and Martins Piternieks. In their last group match, they beat Gdansk University of Technology from Poland 21:6. That result secured second place in the group and a spot in the elimination stage.
In the evening, LU faced Germany's Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in the round of 16. After a tight contest, the Latvian students came out on top 21:17 and advanced to the quarterfinals. There, on Saturday, 1 August, at 10:45 Latvian time, they will meet Vytautas Magnus University from Lithuania.
The RSU women's team includes Una Šteinharde, Samanta Gabranova, Paula Cīrša and Luīze Šepte. On Friday morning, they played their final group game against the University of Nantes from France and won 17:16 in a tense match. With three wins in four games, RSU finished second in their group and reached the round of 16.
In the knockout stage, RSU faced a Ukrainian university team. The Latvian players lost 12:16 and ended the tournament in shared ninth place.
