LU 3x3 basketball team wins bronze at European University Games

The University of Latvia's 3x3 basketball team has taken third place at the European University Games in Salerno, beating Ostrava University in the bronze-medal match.

The University of Latvia (LU) 3x3 basketball team has secured a bronze medal at the European University Games in Salerno. In the third-place game, the Latvians defeated Ostrava University of the Czech Republic 21:9. Zviedris scored ten points, Piternieks six, Skreivers four, and Lucis one.

In Group D, LU played five matches. They beat Lavoslav Ružička Applied Sciences College, Göttingen University, Valencia University and Gdańsk University of Technology, while their only loss came against Nantes University. With four wins in five games, LU finished second among six teams.

In the knockout stage, the Latvians beat Karlsruhe Institute of Technology 21:17 in the round of 16 and Vytautas Magnus University 21:13 in the quarterfinals, before losing 7:8 to Seville University in the semifinal. They then bounced back to claim bronze.

On Saturday, in beach volleyball, the Riga Stradiņš University (RSU) duo of Atvars Ozoliņš and Gustavs Auziņš won the tournament, while the LU duo of Olivers Bulgačs and Ernests Puškundzis took bronze. Latvia is represented at the games by athletes from RSU and LU.

The European University Games bring together around 4,000 student athletes from more than 170 universities representing 32 European countries. Held every two years, the Salerno edition features 13 sports.
