University of Latvia rector declares share transactions worth €300,000
Guntars Bērziņš, the rector of the University of Latvia, has disclosed several share purchase and sale transactions totaling nearly €300,000 in his annual declaration of assets and income.

Guntars Bērziņš, rector of the University of Latvia (UL), has revealed significant stock market activity in his 2023 annual declaration. The largest transactions included two sales of shares valued at €100,107 and €82,447, as well as a purchase of shares for €89,927. The combined value of these deals reached €272,481, representing a substantial portion of his financial operations last year.
The declaration also listed other financial instruments. Bērziņš owns securities worth €45,413 and investment funds totaling €5,117. In addition, he reported non-cash savings of €103,098.
The rector’s income for the year was €186,061, with nearly all of it – €185,953 – coming from his salary at UL. The remainder consisted of dividends and interest income.
Bērziņš also declared his property holdings. He owns two apartments in Riga and co-owns two other properties. Outside the capital, he has a property in Jūrkalne parish. His vehicle fleet comprises three cars: a 2020 Audi Q7 (held under right of use), a 2013 VW Sharan, and a 1976 Opel Rekord, all in his possession.
