Lubāna Hosts New Enduro Track as Sabulis Extends Winning Streak
Lubāna hosted the fifth round of the Latvian Enduro Championship for the first time on a new track, with Kārlis Sabulis winning the EGP class after a close battle to keep his unbeaten season intact.
On September 12, Lubāna hosted the fifth round of the Latvian Enduro Championship for the first time, drawing 57 riders from Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. Competitors faced a newly built track featuring a 55-kilometer lap and two special speed tests, with each lap taking roughly two hours and 20 minutes to complete.
A close fight for the win
In the EGP class, Kārlis Sabulis of Motosports Racing Team took the victory, extending his unbeaten season and strengthening his lead in the overall championship standings. The win did not come easily — after the first lap, Sabulis trailed the leader by 45 seconds. He gradually closed the gap throughout the race, narrowing it to nine seconds before the final test, then posted a time 15 seconds faster than his rival in that decisive stage to finish four seconds ahead overall. It later emerged that a scoring error of nearly 28 seconds had affected the first-lap results, which organizers subsequently corrected.
Miks Rasmanis, also of Motosports Racing Team, finished second in the EGP class, with teammate Edgars Siliņš taking third.
New track well received
Both riders and organizers praised the new Lubāna track for its variety and technically engaging speed tests. Event organizer Guntis Klikučs said many local residents came out to watch and that feedback from participants was largely positive.
Lubāna will host motorsport action again this Sunday, September 20, for the fifth round of the Latvian Cross Country Championship, which will introduce a new Moto Adventure class. The Enduro season continues on September 26-27 at the Rukios track in Lithuania, where the third round of the Baltic Championship and sixth round of the Latvian Championship will take place simultaneously.
