Luis Enrique shapes PSG's future: how the Paris club aims to stay on top
Paris St-Germain coach Luis Enrique is working to keep the two-time European champions hungry. Ahead of the trip to Manchester City, the club has extended contracts and refreshed its attack.

Paris St-Germain (PSG) coach Luis Enrique is preparing for Wednesday's Champions League match at Manchester City's Etihad Stadium. The French football club are two-time defending European champions and could become only the second team to win three consecutive Champions League titles. They are also chasing a third successive French league title.
In Ligue 1, France's top division, PSG are sixth with three wins, two draws and one defeat. Nobody at the club is panicking: last season's start was similarly slow, yet the coach was confident results would follow. Luis Enrique recently said: "Do you want to bet against us?"
Contracts and a stable staff
Luis Enrique recently signed a contract until 2030. The club also confirmed new deals for Joao Neves, Fabian Ruiz, Willian Pacho, Lucas Beraldo and Senny Mayulu. There has been little change in the technical staff since 2023, with assistant Joaquin Valdes and strategy coach Rafel Pol still alongside him. Training methods have also changed very little.
Greater depth
The main change is squad depth. Luis Enrique can leave out several key players without the team suffering. Ousmane Dembele missed Saturday's win against Le Mans, and starters arrive rested for bigger games. Gonzalo Ramos, Bradley Barcola and Lee Kang-in have left, while Mika Godts and Ferran Torres have arrived. Liverpool paid £123m for Barcola.
Academy and media
The club's academy campus opened in November 2024 after a 350m euro investment. Four homegrown players featured in the Champions League last season. Luis Enrique keeps his distance from the media, but speaks with interest when the subject is football.
