Latvia's State Forests recognizes top forestry service providers in all eight regions

Latvia's state forestry company, AS "Latvijas valsts meži" (LVM), has recognized businesses that stood out this year for quality work and strong cooperation in forestry management. In each of LVM's eight regions, around 25 service providers handle forest regeneration through planting and manual restocking, tend young stands, perform agrotechnical maintenance, and protect young trees from damage caused by deer and other cervids.

How winners are chosen

To select award recipients, LVM evaluates the quality of completed work, adherence to deadlines, and cooperation with LVM forestry staff who assign tasks, monitor execution, and approve the final results. Juris Katrevičs, an LVM forestry work expert, explained that each region currently receives just one excellence-in-cooperation award, a tradition that began in 2020 for achievements recorded in 2019. Awards are typically presented during an annual one-day training session for service providers, held to communicate quality requirements and align understanding of how tasks should be carried out.

This year's winners

For 2025, awards went to: SIA "HUBRO" in the Western Vidzeme region, SIA "Sils RS" in Eastern Vidzeme, SIA "SKN Šuškova" in Northern Latgale, SIA "AT Meži" in both Southern Latgale and Central Daugava regions, SIA "SCHWARTZ COMPANY" in Zemgale, SIA "BEM auto" in Southern Kurzeme, and SIA "Štr mežs" in Northern Kurzeme.

Andrejs Turļuks, head of SIA "AT Meži", which received awards in two regions, thanked LVM for recognizing the cooperation and credited his employees' dedication and responsible attitude for the achievement. He noted that the award also brings greater responsibility, given the company's role in managing one of Latvia's most important resources — its forests — and said the goal is to maintain the current quality of work while striving to do even better.
