Boy, 12, flees police at up to 187 km/h in Madonas district
On Friday, September 18, a boy born in 2013 fled from police near Madona and Cesvaine, reaching speeds of up to 187 km/h in a car he had taken from his father without permission.
On Friday, September 18, at around 5:09 p.m., police officers attempted to stop an Audi on Lazdonas Street in Madona, but the driver refused to comply and sped off instead.
The car continued through Madona via Rūpniecības and Saules streets, then headed toward Cesvaine along the Pļaviņas–Madona–Gulbene road (P37), entering the town of Cesvaine via Pils and Augusta Saulieša streets.
During the chase, the driver repeatedly and aggressively violated traffic rules, endangering other road users. The speed limit was significantly exceeded both within and outside populated areas, with the car reaching as much as 187 km/h at some points.
At around 5:20 p.m., the car stopped in Cesvaine on Augusta Saulieša Street near the stadium. During the check, police discovered that the driver was a boy born in 2013, who had taken the car keys without his father's knowledge in order to go for a drive.
An internal investigation has been launched, and the case materials will be assessed both regarding the minor's actions and the parents' responsibility for supervising their child. The State Police again urged parents and guardians to keep vehicle keys secure and to talk to their children about the consequences of reckless behavior and the danger it poses to themselves and others.
