Teen boy hits 187 km/h fleeing police in stolen car near Madona
Near Madona and Cesvaine, a boy born in 2013 took his father's car keys without permission and reached speeds of up to 187 km/h while fleeing police. An investigation has been launched.
A dangerous car chase unfolded near Madona and Cesvaine on Friday, September 18, involving an underage driver.
What happened
According to the State Police, an Audi was being driven by a boy born in 2013, who had taken the car keys without his father's knowledge in order to go for a drive. While fleeing from police, he drove aggressively and grossly violated traffic rules, endangering other road users. The speed limit was significantly exceeded both within and outside populated areas, with the car reaching speeds of up to 187 km/h at certain points.
How the chase ended
At around 5:20 p.m., the car stopped in Cesvaine on Augusta Saulieša Street, near the stadium. During the inspection, police confirmed that the vehicle had been driven by the minor.
What happens next
An internal departmental review has been launched into the incident. The case materials will be assessed both regarding the boy's own actions and the parents' responsibility for supervising their child, in line with legal requirements.
The incident is a reminder that in Latvia it is illegal both to exceed the speed limit and to drive a vehicle without having reached the legally required age and obtained a driver's license.
