Magone Liedeskalna reveals suicidal thoughts during postpartum depression on TV show
On the 360TV show “Slavenības. Bez filtra”, Magone Liedeskalna spoke about her difficult childhood and three occasions when she came face to face with death. One of them was severe postpartum depression after her first child was born.

Magone Liedeskalna spoke candidly on the Latvian TV channel 360TV’s show “Slavenības. Bez filtra” (“Celebrities. Unfiltered”) about the hardest periods of her life, including severe postpartum depression after the birth of her first child, when she had thoughts of suicide. In the episode, she took part in a self-discovery session, and the conversation also turned to her childhood and what she experienced in her family.
Rest and self-discovery
After an unusual cacao ceremony, Magone joined lifestyle coach Vita Stalīdzāne for a self-discovery session. Using metaphorical cards, she tried to understand her current stage in life. Her attention was drawn to a picture of a snail and a spiral, symbolising growth and moving forward. Magone said she knows her goal and that no obstacle will divert her from it.
When the conversation turned to rest, she admitted that she has not been able to sleep properly for years. By her account, this has not been the case since her first child was born.
Childhood and three brushes with death
Talking about her childhood, Magone mentioned violence, alcohol and suffering in her family. She also described three occasions when she looked death in the eye. The first was when her mother was expecting her and an abortion was considered. The second was when she was rescued from a burning house.
The third was linked to the birth of her firstborn. Magone said she went through very severe postpartum depression, when it seemed that it would be easier to end her life. She said she stood by a window on the fifth floor, thinking how easy it would be to climb onto the windowsill. “My soul demanded to be released from the body,” she recalled. However, Magone managed to climb out of that pit and begin a path toward a better life.
