Magone Liedeskalna Files Police Complaint Over Fake News and Defamation
TV personality and poet Magone Liedeskalna, along with her friend Evita, has filed a complaint with the police about four Facebook pages spreading false information and defamatory content. They hope for a criminal case and possibly compensation, which they jokingly plan to split.

TV personality and poet Magone Liedeskalna has turned to the police to file a complaint about fake news and defamatory content circulating online. In the show “Slavenības. Bez filtra” (Celebrities. Unfiltered), she expressed hope that those responsible for suspicious social media pages and the spread of false information will be held accountable. “If nothing is done, these [fake news pages] will multiply like mosquitoes after the rain,” Magone said.
Her friend Evita, a participant in the show “Caur ērkšķiem uz..” (Through Thorns to..), added that the two of them together submitted a report to the police about four Facebook pages sending links containing slander and fabricated texts that damage Magone’s reputation. “It is pure hate speech on a public platform, where haters are already furious about celebrities, my work, culture, environment, and poetry,” Magone stated, noting that a criminal case is being pursued. “The court decides the amount of compensation and whether harm has been done. As fate wills it, so it will be,” she said.
Evita noted that all addresses from which the fake news was sent will be investigated, the owner identified, and a criminal case initiated. “I really want to believe that this will culminate in success, with the fake pages closed and the responsible person brought to justice,” Magone said, adding that perhaps some compensation might be received. Jokingly, she told Evita: “Let us have a new house in Liepāja in a year! We’ll split the money in half!” Evita, who dreams of moving from Priekule to Liepāja, laughed. Magone herself has recently considered moving from the countryside to the city.
