McGuinness set to stay on as Donegal football manager into 2027
Jim McGuinness will continue as Donegal's senior football manager for the 2027 season, while Mickey McCann has been reappointed to lead the county's senior hurlers for a further two years.
Donegal GAA announced on Monday evening that Jim McGuinness will remain in charge of the county's senior football team for the 2027 season, extending his current second stint as manager into a fourth year.
At the same time, the county confirmed that Mickey McCann will continue managing the senior hurling team for another two years, a role he has held since 2018.
In a statement following a meeting of the County Committee, Donegal GAA said McCann had been appointed hurling manager for a two-year term, while McGuinness had been given a one-year extension as football manager.
Mixed fortunes on the field
During his second spell in charge, the 53-year-old McGuinness has guided Donegal to consecutive Ulster titles in 2024 and 2025, as well as an appearance in the 2025 All-Ireland final. Earlier this year, in March, his side beat Kerry to win the Football League Division One title.
However, the recent championship campaign proved disappointing for the county. Donegal were knocked out by Down in the Ulster SFC quarter-finals and were eliminated by Dublin after extra time in Round 3 of the All-Ireland series.
McGuinness previously led Donegal to All-Ireland glory in 2012 during his first spell as manager. When he returned for his second term, he initially signed a three-year contract that included the option of a fourth season, which has now been triggered.
