Mac Allister 'sad' Liverpool have not offered new contract

Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has revealed he feels "very sad" that the club has not offered him a new contract. The 27-year-old Argentine, who signed a five-year deal from Brighton in June 2023, spoke out ahead of Wednesday's Champions League fixture against Atletico Madrid.

Mac Allister noted that team-mates Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch both extended their contracts with the club this year, and while he is happy for them, he admitted it stings that he has not received a similar offer himself. He stressed that he always gives his full effort in training and matches, and reassured supporters that he will continue to commit fully to the club for as long as he remains there.

The midfielder said he has had no direct conversation with the club about the decision not to renew his deal. He recalled winning the Premier League together with his team-mates and going through tough periods as a group, saying he will simply wait to see what happens next. Mac Allister, who has been linked with a possible move to Manchester City, also confirmed he had options to leave Liverpool in the summer but chose to stay, believing he is currently at the right club.

Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola, who took charge this summer following Arne Slot's departure, addressed the situation by saying every player has his own individual contract circumstances. Iraola emphasised that what matters most is Mac Allister's desire to stay, adding that despite working together for only a short time, the player has already proven to be an important member of the squad. He noted there is still plenty of time for further discussions on the contract situation.
