The Ukrainian outlet Ukrainska Pravda has published an article detailing how artificial intelligence is used to create fake religious figures that disseminate Russian propaganda. The article cites as a historical reference the encyclical "About New Things" (Rerum Novarum) written by Pope Leo XIII in 1891. This encyclical is among the most famous and most cited in the history of the Catholic Church. It was written at the peak of the Industrial Revolution, when millions of people flocked to work in newly built factories, laboring 12–15 hours a day. The article suggests that the use of AI for propaganda purposes represents a modern form of societal manipulation, reminiscent of the social transformations brought about by the Industrial Revolution.
