Malaysian football club sets record unlikely to ever be beaten — 110 games unbeaten
Malaysian champions Johor Darul Ta'zim have extended their unbeaten run in the national league to 110 matches, surpassing the previous world record held by Ivory Coast's ASEC Mimosas.
Malaysian football club Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) continues to rewrite the record books in its domestic league, where the team has for a long time barely known what it means to lose.
Last season, the club closed out the championship with a record-breaking win, defeating Kelantan The Real Warriors 14:1. That result also cemented another achievement: JDT became national champions for the 12th consecutive season, itself a record in Malaysian football.
A world record unbeaten streak
On 21 August this year, JDT beat Kuching City FC 3:0, marking their 109th consecutive match without defeat in the national championship. With that result, the club surpassed the previous world record, held since 1994 by Ivory Coast's ASEC Mimosas, who went unbeaten for 108 straight matches between 1989 and 1994.
JDT, however, has no intention of stopping there. On 26 August, the team defeated Kelantan Red Warriors 9:0, stretching its unbeaten run to 110 consecutive matches. The club's next test comes on 29 August against Star City.
JDT's last defeat in the national championship came on 24 April 2021, when it lost to Terengganu — the club's only loss of that season.
