Manchester City beat Liverpool 3-0 away on Sunday in the Premier League, England's top football division. The match was played at Liverpool's Anfield stadium. The two clubs have been the closest rivals in recent seasons, so the fixture was seen as an important one. Neither side scored in the first half, but City took control after the break.

The game changed in the 62nd minute. Liverpool's Ryan Gravenberch received a second yellow card and had to leave the pitch, leaving the hosts with ten men. Three minutes later City striker Erling Haaland scored to make it 1-0.

About three minutes after that, Jeremy Doku burst into the penalty area and curled the ball into the net from distance to make it 2-0. In the 78th minute Rayan Cherki added the third. After a backheel pass from Josko Gvardiol, he got past a defender close to the goal and scored.

A first since 1953, and pending charges

It is the first time since 1953 that the Manchester club has won two Premier League games in a row at Liverpool's Anfield ground. It was also City's first match since the club was formally charged with numerous financial violations, which could lead to a heavy punishment.

League table

City are the only team that has not dropped any points in the first six rounds. They lead the table with 18 points. Reigning champions Arsenal of London are three points behind. Liverpool have nine points and are ninth.
