Manchester United thrash Sabah in Champions League return as Fabregas's Como impress on debut

Manchester United marked their Champions League return with a comfortable 4-0 win over Azerbaijan's Sabah at Old Trafford on Thursday, while Cesc Fabregas's Como impressed in their first-ever match in the competition.

Matheus Cunha opened the scoring in the 27th minute from Patrick Dorgu's cross, and although Sabah nearly equalised through a header from Joy-Lance Mickels that went wide, United pulled clear before the break through captain Bruno Fernandes and forward Benjamin Sesko. Centre-back Lisandro Martinez added a fourth in the second half after a bobbling ball fell to him following a Joshua Zirkzee backheel. Manager Michael Carrick used the game to give young players Harry Amass and Shea Lacey their Champions League debuts, resting key players ahead of Sunday's Manchester derby.

Como secured a 4-1 win over RB Leipzig, with goals from Martin Baturina, Tasos Douvikas and Assane Diao, sealed late by Maximo Perrone, despite Leipzig pulling one back through Andrija Maksimovic.

Bayern Munich needed time to break down Bodo/Glimt before winning 5-0. Harry Kane scored for an eighth consecutive Champions League match, while Michael Olise netted twice. Jamal Musiala also scored, his first goal since collapsing on the pitch during pre-season due to a neurological condition.

Elsewhere, Lens came from behind twice to beat 10-man Slavia Prague 3-2 with late goals, while Fenerbahce drew 1-1 with Roma and PSV Eindhoven drew 1-1 with Shakhtar Donetsk. Fenerbahce coach Ismail Kartal offered his resignation after the match, but club president Aziz Yildirim said he rejected it.
