Manchester United have completed the signing of goalkeeper Janina Leitzig from Leicester City for an undisclosed fee. The 27-year-old becomes the club's second addition of the summer window, following the arrival of defender Andrea Medina.

The former Germany youth international is believed to have signed a three-year contract with United after the club triggered a release clause in her Leicester deal, which had been extended in 2025.

Leitzig spent three years at Leicester, initially on a season-long loan from Bayern Munich, where she established herself as a regular starter. She leaves the Foxes having made nearly 70 appearances in all competitions, though she could not prevent Leicester's relegation from the Women's Super League last season.

"It is a real honour to be a Manchester United player," Leitzig said. "I'm ready to bring all of my experience of competing at the highest level to help the team have a successful season. I am joining a really excellent group of goalkeepers. Everyone has told me about the great environment that they have created. I cannot wait to push all together to maintain the high performance standards that this club deserves."

Leitzig has been a long-term target for United; BBC Sport first reported in 2023 that the club had made contact with the German goalkeeper during her loan spell at Leicester. She will wear the number 25 shirt at Manchester United.
