Shops in Latvia already carry a fairly broad selection of mandarins in October. The citrus fruit is traditionally tied to Christmas in the country, so seeing it on shelves this early in autumn stands out. The news site TVNET reports on what mandarins shops are offering.
A taste of Christmas
In Latvia, mandarins have become one of the typical flavours of Christmas. In the past, seeing them in a shop and smelling the fruit, for example in an office where a colleague was quietly eating one, signalled that the holidays were not far off.
Autumn selection
It is now October, and shops already stock plenty of mandarins. They are therefore no longer something available only right before the holidays, and this sign of Christmas approaching now arrives earlier than it used to.
