The Riga City Council announced on its official Facebook page that it had received a report from a resident about a possible bear sighting in the Mangaļsala district. The municipality is urging residents of the area, as well as anyone else spending time there, to remain cautious.

Report not yet confirmed

So far, the information about the wild animal's presence is based solely on a single resident's report and has not been independently verified by the municipality. Nevertheless, to reduce potential risk, the city council decided to share the information publicly without delay via its official Facebook account.

Mangaļsala is located in the northern part of Riga, near the mouth of the Daugava River, and includes forested, sparsely populated areas. Such surroundings could theoretically serve as a route for wild animal movement, although the municipality's statement did not specify any particular circumstances that might explain the animal's possible presence.

Further details — such as the exact time and location of the sighting, or any planned follow-up steps by the municipality or relevant services — were not included in the public statement. The city council issued the notice as a precautionary measure rather than as confirmation that a bear is actually present within city limits.
