Latvian musician Māra Upmane-Holšteine to hold first solo electronic music concert
Musician Māra Upmane-Holšteine is preparing her first solo concert under the electronic music project MAARMAAR, performing her album “Pusmūža krīze” in full along with new songs.
Māra Upmane-Holšteine, known from the band “Astro’n’out,” is entering a new phase in her musical career as she prepares for her first solo concert under the electronic music project MAARMAAR. The idea for a standalone show emerged after a successful performance this summer at the “Summer Sound” festival, where she played in the DJ tent. That experience gave her the motivation to continue developing this new musical direction.
At the upcoming concert, musician Mickeen will join Māra on stage. The set will feature her album “Pusmūža krīze” (“Midlife Crisis”) performed in full, plus several new songs and compositions that have not previously been performed publicly.
A concert as "therapy"
In announcing the concert, the musician used the phrase “midlife crisis therapy, live.” Māra explains that “Pusmūža krīze” is both the album's title and a description of a life stage she associates with the past two years, during which the album was created.
She emphasizes that difficult or painful emotions do not always need to be fought or suppressed — they too deserve space, and can be processed through music and dance. In her view, a concert can hold room for both joy and melancholy, with both feelings equally valid.
The musician adds that the new solo project does not mean the end of “Astro’n’out.” No one can currently say exactly where this new musical path will lead, but she senses that in the future it could bring even more energy to the band as well.
