Marathon on drifting sea ice at North Pole draws 23 runners
Twenty-three runners from seven countries completed a marathon on drifting sea ice at the geographic North Pole, organizers said, dubbing it the 'world's coolest marathon'.

Organizers have announced that 23 runners from seven countries took part in races at the geographic North Pole in the Arctic, an event they called the "world's coolest marathon." The competition was held on drifting sea ice, with participants arriving from Norway aboard the French polar vessel Le Commandant Charcot.
The athletes disembarked the ship to run laps of a 1,055-meter loop on the ice below, wearing thermal gear and life vests as a safety requirement. Denmark's Rikke Dam won the women's title with a time of 6:54:02, while Wang Shengxian of China won the men's race in 3:52:22.
