Marine Le Pen Remains Defiant, Continues Presidential Campaign Following Controversial Conviction

Marine Le Pen's Legal and Political Strategy

Marine Le Pen, leader of the National Rally, has decided to appeal her conviction and proceed with her presidential bid. According to La Voix du Nord, Le Pen seized a narrow opportunity and remains in control. L'Opinion notes that she chose a third path, being neither barred nor exonerated. Le Parisien describes her as a "political animal" whom voters still identify with, suggesting the conviction may not harm her. Le Figaro shifts focus to her economic promises, questioning her party's ability to govern. Le Monde characterizes the ruling as "tailor-made" and "lenient" but still severe. La Croix warns of a risk of destabilization to democracy.

International reactions include El País stating she is breaking promises and losing credibility, the Financial Times noting she plays the victim but the French public is unconvinced, and La Repubblica calling the conviction a serious blow but not the final one, fearing consequences for the EU.

Turkey Deports Russian Activist

Turkey has deported 24-year-old Russian anti-war activist Ariadna Litvinova back to Russia, the first known case of Ankara sending an activist to Moscow. She was charged in Russia for "discrediting" the army after protesting the Ukraine war with banners. She was deported on Saturday and immediately detained upon arrival.

Male Fertility Crisis

New research indicates that average testosterone levels in men have halved over the past 50 years, and sperm counts have steeply declined, pointing to a major male fertility crisis. Scientists attribute this partly to rising obesity and diabetes, but also to environmental factors like endocrine-disrupting chemicals found in household items.
