Marine Le Pen Confirms Run for French Presidency
French far-right leader Marine Le Pen announced her candidacy for the 2027 presidential election while appealing an embezzlement conviction that requires her to wear an electronic tag.

Marine Le Pen, leader of France's National Rally party, has confirmed she will run for the presidency in 2027. She also stated she will appeal an embezzlement conviction that mandates she wear an electronic monitoring tag for one year.
"I cannot campaign with a tag," Le Pen told French television, adding that she intends to pursue all legal avenues to prove her innocence. Hours earlier, a Paris appeals court found her guilty of misusing €2.8 million (£2.4 million) in EU funds through a fake jobs scheme. However, the court ruled that she is eligible to stand for the presidency while wearing the electronic tag.
