Maris Zanders analyzes Trump's motives for declassifying UFO files
Commentator Maris Zanders outlines three possible reasons behind Donald Trump's declassification of UFO documents: distraction from scandals, justification of military budget, and reinforcing his 'truth-teller' image.

US President Donald Trump has recently sparked widespread discussion by declassifying so-called UFO files. While many view it as another impulsive move, commentator Maris Zanders argues that this action is part of a consistent strategy.
Zanders identifies three possible motives. First, distraction from other scandals, such as the Epstein files, the Iran issue, or fuel prices. This approach echoes the tactic suggested by Trump's former advisor Steve Bannon: 'flood the zone with shit.' However, Zanders is skeptical, noting that the public today is too suspicious for such a trick to work long-term.
The second possibility is that the UFO files help maintain a sense of threat. Even if people don't believe in aliens, they may conclude these objects are advanced technologies from other nations, thereby justifying increased military spending.
The third and, in Zanders' view, most convincing option is that Trump is reinforcing his image as a 'truth-teller.' He has long positioned himself as a politician who reveals what the elite hides, and the UFO files fit perfectly into this narrative.
