Márquez beats Bezzecchi to claim sixth sprint win of the season
Marc Márquez won the San Marino Grand Prix sprint, overtaking pole-sitter Marco Bezzecchi on the very first corner for his sixth sprint victory of the season. Championship leader Jorge Martín finished third.
Spanish rider Marc Márquez claimed his sixth sprint win of the season at the San Marino Grand Prix, getting the better of Aprilia's Marco Bezzecchi.
Starting from second on the grid, Márquez moved into the lead already on the opening corner, passing pole-sitter Bezzecchi. The reigning world champion then controlled the race from the front all the way to the checkered flag. Bezzecchi found more pace in the second half of the sprint and began closing the gap, but Márquez responded with the fastest lap of the race and crossed the line first, 1.068 seconds ahead of his rival.
Martín unable to join the fight for the win
Third place went to Aprilia's second rider and current championship leader, Jorge Martín, who passed Fabio Di Giannantonio during the race but could not close the gap to the leading pair and stayed out of contention for victory.
Di Giannantonio finished just behind the top three. Alex Márquez, who crashed twice in qualifying and started from a difficult position, produced a strong recovery ride to finish fifth, ahead of both Pedro Acosta and Raúl Fernández.
Sprint points go to the top nine finishers, with Fermín Aldeguer and Luca Marini rounding out that group.
