Marquez claims third consecutive Aragon Grand Prix win
MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez won the Aragon Grand Prix for a third straight year, cutting the gap to championship leader Jorge Martin. The Ducati rider held off Aprilia's Marco Bezzecchi after a close battle, while KTM's Pedro Acosta took third.
MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez extended his strong record at MotorLand, winning the Aragon Grand Prix for the third consecutive year and boosting his hopes of defending the championship title.
The 33-year-old Ducati rider, who also won Saturday's sprint race, faced a tense fight with Aprilia's Marco Bezzecchi, who had claimed pole position. On the sixth lap, Marquez overtook Bezzecchi at high speed in a move that nearly resulted in contact between the two bikes.
Championship gap narrows
The win was Marquez's eighth at the Aragon circuit and helped him close the points gap to championship leader Jorge Martin of Aprilia, who finished fifth on the day. Marquez now sits on 237 points, overtaking Bezzecchi (232) to move into second place overall, 19 points behind Martin's 256.
Bezzecchi, who finished third behind Marquez and KTM's Pedro Acosta, described the overtaking move as unusual, saying the slipstream effect between the two bikes pushed them apart as they crossed paths on the track. The 27-year-old Italian said Marquez's experience and speed made him unbeatable on the day.
Acosta completed the podium in third for KTM, finishing ahead of Bezzecchi.
