Victory at Sachsenring
Spanish rider Marc Márquez (Ducati) claimed a commanding victory at the German Grand Prix on Sunday, starting from pole position and finishing 1.996 seconds ahead of Ai Ogura (Trackhouse/Aprilia). Ogura's teammate Raul Fernandez took third. Márquez also won Saturday's sprint race.
Historic Achievement
This was Márquez's tenth MotoGP class win at the Sachsenring, equaling Giacomo Agostini's record for most victories in the top class on a single circuit. "I'm very, very happy. It was a special weekend," said the 33-year-old. He emphasized that he needed a strong result to keep his championship hopes alive.
Brother's Crash
Early in the race, Márquez battled his brother Alex Márquez (Gresini/Ducati), who started second. However, after eight laps, Alex Márquez lost control and crashed, retiring from the race.
Championship Standings
After 11 rounds, Jorge Martin (Aprilia) leads the standings with 208 points. Ogura is second with 194, Márquez third with 190, Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia) fourth with 186, and Fabio Di Giannantonio (Pertamina Enduro VR46) fifth with 184. The season consists of 22 rounds, ending in November. Márquez is the reigning champion and has now won three races this year.
