Tears and sleepless nights as Marshall and Adlington get Scotland flag honour

Scotland's bowler George Marshall, 59, and judoka Sarah Adlington, 39, have been honoured with the role of carrying the Scottish flag at the Commonwealth Games, a news that has stirred strong emotions. Marshall admitted that he shed a tear when he came out of the lift and saw all the athletes, calling it a huge honour. The honour is especially special as his niece Beth Riva is also on the bowls team. Dressed in full kilt and clutching the flagstick tightly, Marshall noted he would have to let go of it for the evening before getting it back for the ceremony. Adlington, who won judo gold in 2014 and 2022 and aims to complete a treble, revealed that they had known the news for weeks but were sworn to secrecy, which was very hard. She said she was very nervous upon waking up and might not sleep that night, hoping the experience would be as amazing as in 2014.
