Marseille beat Toulouse 2-0 at home in round nine of Ligue 1, France's top football division. It was their fourth consecutive win and lifted the club into a European competition place in the standings, after a poor start to the season.
How the match went
The scoring began in the very first minute. Amine Harit broke into the penalty area, received a precise pass from Amine Gouiri and sent the ball into the bottom left corner. The hosts soon had to make a forced substitution, as Brazilian Emerson was injured and replaced by Ulisse Garcia.
The change did not stop Marseille from extending the lead. In the 25th minute, Algerian Gouiri received a pass in the box and hit a low shot into the left corner to make it 2-0.
After the break, Toulouse came close to getting back into the game. In the 68th minute, following a corner routine, Kasper Tengstedt reached the ball first and beat goalkeeper Geoffrey de Lange. However, after a consultation with VAR (the video assistant referee), the referee reversed his original decision and disallowed the goal, so the score stayed 2-0.
