Singer Marta has released her latest single, “Big Boy Problems”. It is her first collaboration with co-writer Fraser Rieley, a British producer and mixing engineer. The mastering was done by Christopher Harris, with whom the artist has worked for a long time.

From concert to single

Marta first performed the song publicly a couple of weeks ago, at her album showcase concert at the Spīķeri concert hall. It was played with a live band, sounded more rock-oriented and recalled Avril Lavigne's repertoire. The version now released is more electronic.

The song carries sarcasm and irony as well as irritation and anger. Marta explains that everyone has probably met someone with a huge ego and an unpleasant way of communicating. In her view, the song is a reminder that one need not back down when someone tries to build up their own self-esteem at another's expense.

Where the song came from

At the concert the artist shared more: the song was born at an international songwriting camp. On the first day, a producer placed in her team kept talking about the hits he had made and how important he was, and said that what Marta does was “off”. The next day she worked with other musicians and, remembering what she had experienced, wrote this song.

International recognition and plans

BBC Radio 1 presenter Jodie Bryant described the song as bold, fresh and full of personality, proof that Marta cannot be put in a box. BBC Radio 1 has previously also played Marta's song “Villain of the Day”.

Alongside the single, Marta announced her next international career step: in January 2027 she will represent Latvia at the music conference and showcase festival Eurosonic Noorderslag (ESNS) in Groningen, the Netherlands. She says the opportunity means a great deal to her and that she is already preparing diligently.
