Mārtiņš Sesks gets off to a poor start at Rally Finland

Latvian driver Mārtiņš Sesks was the slowest among WRC drivers in the first stage of Rally Finland, finishing last in his class and 6.2 seconds behind the leader.

In morning practice, Sesks was tenth fastest, but set the fastest time in the final of four practice runs. However, in the only stage on Friday (SS1), the Latvian made a mistake and was the slowest of all WRC drivers, placing 11th and last in the WRC class. Overall among all crews, he was 19th, 6.2 seconds behind leader Adrien Fourmaux (Hyundai).

After SS1, Sesks admitted he made a mistake and that the stage was very slippery, calling it more of a Rally2-style stage.

Saturday features nine stages starting at 8:45 AM local time. Sunday has eight stages, start at 8:00 AM, and Monday concludes with two stages, starting at 10:35 AM.

After Finland, Sesks has two more WRC rounds this season: Italy (Oct 1-4) and Saudi Arabia (Nov 11-14).

The top of the overall standings after SS1: Adrien Fourmaux (Hyundai) leads, followed by Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) +1.1s, Elfyn Evans (Toyota) +1.2s, and Sebastien Ogier (Toyota) +1.2s. Sesks is 19th overall.
