Latvian mountain biker Mārtiņš Blūms suffered a serious knee injury on Sunday at a World Cup round in Switzerland and did not finish the Olympic cross-country race. He withdrew after the first lap.

On Sunday, during the World Cup mountain bike (MTB) Olympic cross-country (XCO) event in Switzerland, Latvian rider Mārtiņš Blūms sustained a severe knee injury. He started with number 57 among 94 competitors but was forced to withdraw after completing only the first lap.
Toms Markss, Secretary General of the Latvian Cycling Federation (LRF), confirmed to LETA that the injury is serious and involves the knee. No further details on the extent of the injury or required treatment have been provided yet.
This season, Blūms is ranked outside the top 40, which prevents him from participating in the World Cup short track (XCC) races. Therefore, he is only eligible for the main event, which unfortunately ended in an injury this time.
