Mārtiņš Egliens, an actor at the Latvian National Theatre, has spoken candidly in the 360 TV programme “Slavenības. Bez filtra” about the period when a serious illness entered his life and about the people who became his greatest support. He describes these people as angels sent to strengthen him at the right moment.

According to Egliens, support came from different people — some offered practical help, others simply found the words that gave him enormous strength when he needed it most. When it became clear that treatment needed to continue in Germany, he decided to ask for help and donations. The response surprised him: the required sum was collected within just a few hours.

The actor admits it was difficult to accept the idea of people donating money for his treatment. The donated funds are still very important to him, but once he is fully confident that the difficult period is behind him, he hopes to pass the help on to those who need it more.

In the interview, Egliens also shared details of the complicated treatment process and the procedures that helped improve his condition and restore his voice. One of them was a botox injection, but at first the result caused additional worry: after five days he felt worse, after a month it was even worse, and after three months it was very bad. Then, just when things were expected to become even more difficult, the situation began to improve. Doctors have not been able to fully explain this change, but the actor himself believes that an important decision was to stop constantly focusing on the treatment.
