Mārupe woman handed to prosecutors over poisoning of husband and son

The State Police have completed an investigation into a woman born in 1981 who allegedly poisoned her husband and son with medication last December and then tried to take her own life. The case file has been handed to the Pierīga prosecutor’s office, and the woman remains in custody.

On July 22, State Police officers completed an investigation into an attempted murder of two people in Mārupe. The case materials have been forwarded to the Pierīga prosecutor’s office for criminal prosecution.

The criminal process was opened on December 8 last year. It concerned an incident in which a woman used medication to poison her husband and son and then attempted suicide. During the pre-trial investigation, evidence was collected and case materials were compiled. A woman born in 1981 has been named as the suspect, and she has been placed in custody.

The offence has been classified as attempted murder under Section 15(4) and Section 118(2) of the Criminal Law. The prescribed penalty is life imprisonment or imprisonment from 15 to 20 years, together with probation supervision for up to three years, with or without confiscation of property.

The State Police reminds that no person is considered guilty until their guilt is proven in accordance with the procedure prescribed by law.
