New details emerge in Mārupe case of attempted double murder by medical worker
Prosecutors have released new details about a December 2025 incident in Mārupe in which a healthcare worker is accused of trying to poison her partner and young son. The case has now been sent to Riga District Court.
Latvian prosecutors have disclosed additional details about a criminal case in which a woman with medical training is accused of attempting to kill her partner and her young child. The case had previously been reported on, but new circumstances of the incident have now come to light.
According to prosecutors, the accused, working as a medical professional, used her professional knowledge of medications and their effects to plan the poisoning of both relatives, driven by personal motives.
How the incident unfolded
The crime took place on an evening in December 2025 at the family's home in Mārupe. The accused first gave the victims medication, after which both fell asleep. Once they were in a helpless state, she administered further medication, both orally and by injection.
The crime was not completed only because another person arrived at the home the next day, noticed what had happened, and called for medical help. Both victims were taken to a medical facility — their condition, caused by the medication, was assessed as life-threatening and classified as serious bodily harm.
State Police had previously reported that after poisoning her relatives, the accused attempted suicide by poisoning herself with medication as well. Latvian Television's programme "Panorāma" had earlier suggested the motive may have been a family conflict.
The criminal case has now been referred to Riga District Court for trial.
