Moscow court jails son of professor Anna Kameneva, charges him with her murder

Moscow's Tverskoy Court has ordered the pretrial detention of the son of Anna Kameneva, an associate professor at Moscow State University's Higher School of State Audit, who has been charged with murdering his mother. The information comes from a law enforcement source cited by Russia's state news agency TASS.
Kameneva's death became known on August 26. According to the newspaper Izvestia, her body was discovered with a cut to the neck at a house in the village of Zhukovka outside Moscow. Investigators also found shell casings and a nonlethal handgun designed to fire rubber bullets at the scene. Moscow State University's press office subsequently confirmed her death.
Sources previously cited by the tabloid Komsomolskaya Pravda said the primary suspect in the killing is a close friend of Kameneva's son. The 18-year-old is said to have fled the scene and remains sought by authorities. Komsomolskaya Pravda suggested the motive could be linked to the family's finances.
Kameneva had worked since 2011 in the economic and financial investigations department of the Higher School of State Audit. She was married to Gadzhi Makhachev, a former deputy in Russia's State Duma and a former deputy prime minister of Dagestan, who died in a 2013 car crash on Moscow's Kutuzovsky Prospekt.
