Retired FSB Major General Found Dead in Moscow, Possible Suicide
Retired FSB Major General Igor Laptev has been found dead in his Moscow apartment, with Russian media reporting a possible suicide. Official confirmation of the circumstances has not yet been released.

An 83-year-old retired Major General of Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB), Igor Laptev, has been found dead in his apartment in Moscow. Several Russian outlets, including Radio Svoboda, Moskovsky Komsomolets and Vesti, reported the death citing their own sources.
Moskovsky Komsomolets stated that the man took his own life inside his apartment. A source cited by Vesti added that Laptev had suffered a gunshot wound to the head. However, no official confirmation of suicide has been issued so far, and the exact circumstances of his death remain unverified.
Career in the FSB and business
According to media reports, Laptev served for many years within the FSB, specializing in information security. He later chaired the board of directors of the Informtekhnika group of companies. Radio Svoboda reports that the firm manufactures communication systems used by federal authorities and security agencies, including the FSB itself.
A similar case last year
Media outlets recalled that in 2025, Transneft vice president Andrei Badalov died after falling from a window on the 17th floor of a building on Rublyovskoye Highway in Moscow, a case that drew significant attention in Russian media due to its similar nature.
