Second Russian general buried in Moscow in a single day — name revealed
Moscow saw the funeral of Lt. Gen. Igor Yerusalimov on August 5, the second general buried that day. The 53-year-old was called a 'hero of the SVO' and had taken part in Russia's military aggression against Ukraine.
Two Russian generals were buried in Moscow on the same day. Reports of a secret funeral at Troyekurovskoye Cemetery on August 5 were followed by word that Lt. Gen. Igor Yerusalimov had also been laid to rest that morning.
A notice posted in local social media channels gave an address matching Yerusalimov's residence in leaked databases. It said the funeral was scheduled for the morning of August 5, while a farewell ceremony had taken place the previous day. The general was 53.
Local Telegram groups referred to him as a 'hero of the SVO' — an indication that he took part in Russia's military aggression against Ukraine. Ukrainian blogger Necro Mancer flagged the reports.
Yerusalimov was promoted to lieutenant general by Vladimir Putin in May 2025. He had received the rank of major general just a week before Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. In 2020 he was head of the operational directorate at the Western Military District headquarters. By 2024, documents listed him as head of the operational directorate and first deputy chief of staff of the Moscow Military District.
The outlet Mediazona said it could not determine the date of Yerusalimov's death.
Separately, the Telegram channel VChK-OGPU reported the funeral of another major general at Troyekurovskoye. An honor guard carried the flag of Russia's Aerospace Forces, and a Ground Forces flag was placed at the grave. The channel suggested the man could be a friend of Aerospace Forces Commander Alexander Chaiko and might have died in an August 1 explosion at the Balzi Rossi restaurant. It did not name him.
