Moscow Attacked by Over 40 Drones Overnight, Airports Halt Operations
More than 40 drones attacked Moscow on the night of June 22, leading to operational restrictions at several airports. Moscow's mayor reported neutralizing 27 drones initially, then another 16.

In the early hours of Monday, June 22, more than 40 drones attacked the Russian capital Moscow, according to reports from Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin and Russian media. The attack prompted restrictions at several Moscow airports.
Sobyanin began reporting on drone neutralization at 3:02 a.m. Kyiv time. Within an hour, he said 27 drones had been neutralized. Later, he reported an attack by another 16 drones.
Russia's Federal Air Transport Agency, Rosaviatsiya, announced the suspension of operations at Moscow's Domodedovo and Zhukovsky airports. At Sheremetyevo Airport, operational restrictions had been imposed earlier, after 2:30 a.m.
It is worth recalling that on the night of June 18, Ukrainian drones breached Russia's layered air defense and struck the Moscow Oil Refinery in Kapotnya, causing a massive fire. Russian media called that attack the largest in two years.
Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna drew attention to a photo that went viral after the Ukrainian strikes on the Moscow Oil Refinery on June 18.
President Volodymyr Zelensky, commenting on the recent Ukrainian strikes on Moscow, said that pressure on Russia to end the war should come not only from Ukrainians but also from Americans, Europeans, and Russians themselves.
Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda, upon arriving at the EU summit in Brussels, stated that the massive drone attack on Moscow on the night of June 18 fundamentally changes the course of the war in Ukraine's favor, but Russia has yet to show readiness for negotiations.
