Matos: Swansea have proven they can beat anyone

Swansea City head coach Vitor Matos says his team's promising start to the new season demonstrates they are able to compete with any side in the Championship.

Swansea returned to second place in the table on Saturday following a 3-1 win over struggling Burnley, sitting behind leaders West Ham only on goal difference.

Adam Idah, Moussa Yeo and Zan Vipotnik were on the scoresheet as Swansea bounced back strongly after suffering their first league defeat of the season away at Southampton earlier in the week.

Focused on performance, not the table

Speaking after the Burnley victory, Matos admitted he was unsure exactly where Swansea currently stand in the league standings, but said his reshaped squad had shown they belong among the division's better teams.

"I think we have a team who can compete against every team in the league," the head coach said. He explained that this competitiveness is the club's goal — when the team can match up against any opponent, it creates the chance for a strong performance and a win on any given day.

Matos acknowledged he cannot guarantee that level of consistency in every match, but said the squad would continue working hard to achieve it as often as possible.
