Annual Livonian Festival to Take Place in Mazirbe

At the end of July, the coast of Kurzeme will become a hub for Livonian culture. While the Livonian summer school "Mierlinkizt" is taking place in Košrags, preparations are underway in Mazirbe for the annual Livonian Festival, which will commence on July 31. In an interview with Latvian Radio's program "Starpbrīdis," Livonian tradition keepers Julgī Stalte and Madara Oga shared insights into the upcoming festivities and the role of Livonian heritage in modern Latvia.

Festival attendees will have the opportunity to hear the Livonian language, learn traditional dances, and practice knot-tying, which are integral parts of Livonian cultural heritage. The event is designed to promote and preserve Livonian culture within Latvian society. The Livonian Festival is not only a celebration but also an educational experience, allowing locals and visitors to become better acquainted with one of Latvia's indigenous peoples.
