Small Countries Champion Andorra Falls to Malta in Basketball Tournament

In the Small Countries Basketball Championship, defending champion Andorra suffered a loss to Malta. The standout player for Malta was naturalized American forward Jordan Tucker, who scored 28 points and grabbed seven rebounds in 30 minutes. Tucker spent last season with Promitheas Patras in Greece.
In other matches, hosts Gibraltar defeated San Marino 70-61, while Andorra had earlier beaten San Marino 99-79. In that game, Serji Serrato Bajetbo recorded 29 points and seven assists.
After the first round, teams will advance to the semifinals and then placement games. Since the men's tournament began in 1988, Andorra has won the title six times, the most of any nation. Iceland, Austria, Azerbaijan, Ireland, and Armenia have two titles each, with Ireland and Armenia winning the last two editions in 2021 and 2022 respectively.
