Mbappé Repeats Feat

Kylian Mbappé has finished as the top scorer of the World Cup for the second consecutive tournament. In the 2026 edition, the French forward scored ten goals in eight matches, compared to eight goals in seven matches four years ago in Qatar. This achievement made Mbappé the all-time leading scorer in World Cup history with 22 goals, one more than Lionel Messi.

Despite the individual honor, Mbappé expressed disappointment that France failed to reach the final. "I would rather not be the top scorer and play in the final. This award will be good for my legacy, but right now it's not what's on my mind," he said after losing the bronze medal match against England.

Behind Mbappé, Lionel Messi finished with eight goals to claim the Silver Boot. Others followed: Erling Haaland and Jude Bellingham (7 each), Harry Kane (6), Ousmane Dembélé and Mikel Oyarzabal (5), and Ismaïla Sarr, Julián Quiñones, and Vinícius Júnior (4 each).

Other Awards

Spain midfielder Rodri (Manchester City) was named the tournament's best player, winning the Golden Ball. The 30-year-old previously won the Ballon d'Or in 2023 and was named best player at Euro 2024. The Golden Glove for best goalkeeper went to Athletic Club's Unai Simón. The 29-year-old conceded only one goal in eight matches – in the quarterfinal against Belgium. Barcelona's 19-year-old defender Pau Cubarsí was awarded Best Young Player after becoming a key part of Spain's defense. These awards came as Spain were crowned world champions.
