One of the suspects is a Latvian citizen who was born in Russia. The second suspect is a citizen of Belarus who also held a Russian passport.
Entry into Germany
According to media reports, one of the men arrived in Germany by plane. The Belarusian citizen's visa was issued in April by the Italian embassy in Minsk.
German media also report that one of the suspects was found to have links to Russian intelligence services.
The airport's role
Leipzig Airport, located in eastern Germany, plays an important role in transporting military cargo used by both the German armed forces and NATO allies. It also serves as a base for the Ukrainian airline Antonov Airlines.
On Tuesday, the German government stated that Russia bears responsibility for the drone attack attempt carried out at the airport on August 4.
